A very common pet rescue at the STAR ECO Station is the Red-eared Slider.
Red eared sliders, a turtle native to the southern United States, are the
most common pet turtle and have spread throughout the world by the pet
trade. These turtles are often discarded as pets because they can
bite, grow over
1 foot in length, live for over 40 years, and may carry
diseases such as the Salmonella bacteria. We were thrilled to find a new
paradise for 6 Red-eared sliders and one painted turtle from the STAR ECO
Station, who were adopted by Duane Sorenson from Venice CA. His spacious
tropical pond offers plenty of opportunity for the turtles to sun bask
and swim.
