    Volunteer with Reading Partners
    Become a volunteer tutor or have your HS students earn volunteer hours through Reading Partners. Reading Partners is looking for volunteers for programs in Pasadena, Huntington Park, and Lawndale. Reading Partners recruits and trains community volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring for elementary students reading below grade level. Tutors can be from 14 years old and above. They partner with historically under-resourced public schools and work closely with classroom teachers to provide a curriculum-based, results-oriented intervention for low-performing readers.

    Alamitos Beach Cleanup - Los Angeles County
    Saturday October 10, 10-10:30am.
    This event is a collaborated effort between Long Beach Surfrider and the Alamitos Beach Neighborhood Association. Meet near the parking lot behind the Villa Riviera on the beach. Parking is free for this event.

    Weed Warriors for Coastweeks - Los Angeles County
    Sunday October 11, 8:45am-12:45pm.
    Weed War Is Recruiting Weed Warriors for Coastweeks to create wildlife habitat at Malibu Creek State Park. Weeds near streams in Tapia will be removed to let native roses, oaks and elderberries grow back in. Bring lunch, water and gloves. Community service credit given.
